Single-player Browser + Steam (later) Solo dev, indie roots AI text only — no AI art
A live moment from the game

Your quest log is never finished.

Every few real-world hours, a new mission appears — selected from a hand-vetted bundle of thousands, scoped to your region, your skills, and what you were just doing. The world has rules. The AI worked inside them, ahead of time.

What you get

An idle RPG that respects your time and your intelligence.

Mechanical depth

Combat plus six gathering and crafting skills with XP curves comparable to Melvor's first 50 levels. AFK ticks the same way you remember.

Thousands of AI-curated quests

Every quest in the bundle was generated by AI from a hand-written world bible, then hand-vetted before shipping. Region-, level-, and activity-aware selection means no two playthroughs read the same. Expanded monthly.

No runtime AI calls

AI text is generated ahead of time during development. The game itself doesn't call any LLM while you play — no latency, no per-player cost, no surprise charges. Just content.

Zero microtransactions

No energy timers, no premium currency, no gacha, no pay-to-win. The free browser version is the whole game. Steam paid build is a one-time price.

Mod-first

Public mod API at launch. Content packs, prompt overrides, custom regions. Community-friendly the way Melvor was — because that's why Melvor is still alive.

Cloud save (optional)

Browser localStorage by default. Anonymous cloud backup if you want it. No account required to play, ever.

Why this is different

Idle RPGs solved the loop, not the content.

Veterans grind the same handful of static zones and quest text for thousands of hours. We're not replacing the loop — we're filling it with content that's actually new.

Other idle RPGs

  • Same 12 zones forever after hour 100
  • Quest text written once, read a thousand times
  • "Content updates" mean waiting six months for a patch
  • Lore is in a wiki, not in the game

The Last Stop

  • New missions every few hours, scoped to your run
  • NPC rumors, ambient lore, region flavor — generated and remembered
  • The world expands as you play, not as the dev patches
  • Your lore codex is the wiki, and it's yours
About the AI

Transparent about what AI does — and what it doesn't.

Most "AI games" hide it. We disclose on day one, in the main menu, in the settings, and on the Steam page. Here's exactly what's generated and what isn't.

What AI does in The Last Stop

All AI text is generated ahead of time, hand-vetted, and shipped with the game. No LLM calls happen while you play.

✓ AI generates (during development)

  • Quest titles and briefings (text only)
  • NPC dialogue, rumors, and region flavor
  • Location names and descriptions
  • All text is anchored to a human-written world bible — no freeform hallucination, hand-vetted before shipping

✗ AI does NOT generate

  • Any in-product art, icons, or visuals — all human-made
  • Anything at runtime — the game makes zero LLM calls while you play
  • Combat numbers, drop tables, or rewards (those are deterministic systems)
  • The world bible itself (factions, regions, biomes — hand-authored)
Where this is going

Roadmap.

Honest about the scope. Honest about the timing. Solo-dev pace, indie ambition.

PHASE 0 Now — days
Prove AI quest quality, offline. Run a 100-quest generation batch with the offline script. Read every quest. If they're good (target 70%+ "would ship"), we have our thesis-validating artifact. ~$1 in API spend.
PHASE 1 Weeks 2–6
Full content bundle. 10,000 quests across 5 regions, NPC dialogue, location flavor. Hand-vetted and shipped as a static bundle on R2 — ~$15 one-time generation cost.
PHASE 2 Months 2–8
Idle game shell. Combat + 5 skills, region travel, bank, save state. State-aware quest selector wired into the bundle. Closed playtest with idle-game community.
PHASE 3 Months 8–12
Free browser launch. Public launch. Reddit / YouTube creator outreach. Founder's Pack pre-orders open. Devlog cadence locked in.
PHASE 4 Months 12–18
Steam Early Access. Paid one-time purchase (~$8). Expanded bundle, more regions, mod API. Steam Next Fest demo. Founder's Pack keys delivered.
PHASE 5 Year 2+
DLC expansions, optional v2 features. First paid DLC. Optional opt-in tavern keeper chat for players who bring their own API key. Free browser stays free forever.
Back the build

Reserve your Steam key. Get your name in the world.

Founder's Packs fund development today and pay back in Steam keys when Early Access opens. Two tiers, both genuinely optional — the free browser game stays free regardless. With AI generation moved to build time, your money funds art, design, and dev hours, not LLM bills.

FOUNDER

Common questions

FAQ.

Is the game really free?
Yes. The browser version is free indefinitely with no ads, no microtransactions, and no energy timers. The Steam version (later) is a one-time purchase that adds expanded content but the free browser game stays free forever.
Why use AI at all?
Because the idle RPG genre's biggest weakness is content scarcity. Static games run out of new things to see by hour 100, but the loop keeps going for another 900. AI text generation — anchored to a hand-written world bible — fills that gap without a 50-person content team.
Does the AI run while I play?
No. All quest text, NPC dialogue, and location flavor was generated by AI during development, hand-vetted, and shipped with the game as a static bundle. The game makes zero LLM calls while you play — no latency, no per-player cost, no surprise charges.
What if the AI hallucinates lore?
Because generation is offline and batched, every quest can be validated against the region's monster/item/NPC manifest before shipping. Hallucinated references are dropped (not edited), and the remaining content is hand-vetted. Players never see the rejected output.
Will the AI be expensive to keep running?
No — AI generation is a fixed developer expense, not a per-player operational cost. The initial 10,000-quest bundle costs around $15 to generate. Monthly expansions cost a few dollars more. The free browser product costs roughly $25–40/month to run at any scale, regardless of how many players show up.
Will my saves transfer to the Steam version?
Yes — that's a hard requirement. Browser saves export to a file you can import into the Steam build, with optional cloud sync between the two.
What does a Founder's Pack actually get me?
A Steam Early Access key the day EA launches (~Months 12–18), a permanent supporter badge in your in-game lore codex, and your name on the credits scroll. Patron tier adds an NPC named after you in a future region and access to the closed Phase 2 playtest. No charge today — we hold your reservation, and if Steam EA doesn't ship you get refunded automatically.
How else do I support the project?
Play the free version and tell other idle-RPG fans. Wishlist on Steam when the page goes live. Subscribe to the devlog. Drop a Ko-fi tip if it's worth coffee money to you. A cosmetic supporter tier launches with the paid Steam build.
